Privacy Policy

Last updated: 14 June 2026

The short version: MapYourOTDR collects nothing. The app has no user accounts, no analytics, no tracking, and no third-party SDKs. It makes no network requests during normal use. Your settings, saved trace files, and the reports you generate all stay on your device. The one exception is Apple's App Store, which the app contacts only when you tap Unlock Pro or Restore Purchases to handle the optional one-time purchase — and even then Apple processes the payment, not us. The longer version below spells out each point.

What we collect

Nothing. MapYourOTDR does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on any server. The app has no user accounts, no sign-in, no email collection, and no analytics SDK of any kind. Its App Store privacy label is Data Not Collected.

What stays on your device

Everything you create or configure lives only on your iPhone or iPad: your appearance settings (theme, font, text size), distance-unit choice, custom analysis thresholds, your report branding (company and technician name), and any OTDR trace files you save to the app's library. OTDR trace files (.sor) you open are parsed entirely in the app on the device; their contents are never uploaded, copied, or shared anywhere. PDF and CSV reports are generated on the device and saved or shared only when you choose to.

A flag indicating that the one-time 24-hour free trial has been used is stored in your device's Keychain. It stays on the device, is never transmitted, and exists only so the free trial is offered once rather than repeatedly.

Network use

The app makes no outbound network requests during normal operation. Reading and analyzing traces, comparing baselines, running bidirectional and dual-wavelength analysis, generating PDF and CSV reports, the learning topics, the calculators, and the simulator all work fully offline — airplane mode included.

The single network touchpoint is Apple's StoreKit framework, which the app invokes only when you tap Unlock Pro or Restore Purchases. That contact goes to the Apple App Store to process the purchase; the app itself sends nothing else. The Settings screen also contains optional links to the MapYourTech website and a feedback email address — these open in Safari or Mail only if you tap them.

In-app purchases

MapYourOTDR is free to download and includes a free tier you can use indefinitely. An optional one-time In-App Purchase ("Pro", a non-consumable product) unlocks the advanced features. There are no subscriptions, nothing recurring, and no ads.

Payments are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store under Apple's own privacy policy. We never receive your name, email, card, or any payment information. The app stores only a small local flag indicating that Pro is unlocked; that flag is tied to your Apple ID by Apple, so you can restore your unlock on your devices with Restore Purchases.

Third-party services

We use no third-party analytics, no advertising networks, no crash reporters, and no SDKs that collect data. The only third party involved is Apple, solely to deliver the app and process the optional purchase. You can verify the app's behaviour yourself by enabling iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → App Privacy Report and observing that MapYourOTDR makes no network contact except the App Store when you buy or restore.

Children's privacy

MapYourOTDR does not collect any information from anyone, including children under 13. The app is a professional engineering utility rated 4+ and complies with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) by virtue of collecting nothing.

Your rights

Because we hold no data about you, there is no data to access, correct, export, or delete on any server. The in-app Clear all data option (Settings tab) permanently deletes your saved traces and baseline, clears your favorites and report branding, and resets thresholds, units, and appearance to their defaults. Your Pro unlock is preserved because it lives on your Apple ID, not in the app. Uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on your device, except the one-time-trial flag held in the Keychain.

Changes to this policy

We will update this page if our practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the latest revision. Material changes will be announced through the app or on this page; continued use after a change constitutes acceptance.
