Electronic Dispersion Compensation (EDC)

EDC is a technology that can help overcome the power losses that occur in optical link budgets. These losses can be caused by various factors such as inter-symbol interference (ISI) due to fiber chromatic and polarization mode dispersion, transmitter impairments, and limitations in the bandwidth of the optical or electronic components of the transmitter or receiver.

Electronic Dynamically Compensating Optics (eDCO) is a newer technology that can further enhance dispersion management and extend the reach of optical networks. By reducing the need for dispersion compensation in Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) networks, eDCO enables greater channel agility and flexibility in the network.
